Photoshop CS6: Retouching

The release of Adobe Photoshop CS6 in 2013 was its first completely new release in a decade. It has a number of impressive features that are new and that many people will find useful.

Photoshop CS6 includes new features that enable users to crop images and to retouch them to remove blemishes, spots, wrinkles, defects, and even bleached teeth. It has better tools for healing and fixing problems and for making color or tone adjustments. It includes new tools to make some “smoothing” of objects and areas and to create cool visual effects and textures. A number of new tools are included to create patterns and text. The brand-new Face-Aware Spot Removal tool allows you to remove blemishes and wrinkles.

Two new tools were added to the Paint Bucket tool box: the Auto Color Correction tool allows you to automatically perform some basic color corrections, and the Adjust Lighting/Levels/Curves (or Layer Styles) tool allows you to make color or tone adjustments to an image by comparing the colors of different areas of an image to create a custom-defined correction.

You can access any Photoshop tool directly from the panel on the left edge of the screen, or you can make changes through a menu system on the right side of the screen. Both menus contain many submenus and function shortcuts as well as tools that you may want to save for future use.

There are new controls and dialog boxes that display inside the Toolbox workspace that contain tips and information about the tools, as well as other tools that may be of interest to you.

The new Camera Raw 7 plug-in features real-time previews of most RAW image files and enables you to view, adjust, and produce non-destructive edits in your RAW image. These types of edits are not destructive in that you can easily undo the changes if needed.

Image Correction/Retouching

Photoshop enables you to “retouch” images. This means that you can fix an image by using tools and layers to make changes to an image.

When you see blemishes or flaws in an image, you can use the Spot Healing tool in the Tools panel to select the blemish and restore the image’s original clarity. When you view the image, if you see a selection in the

This tutorial will teach you how to modify a picture in Adobe Photoshop Elements and turn it into a unique emoji. We’ll also show you how to enhance the image in a way that makes the artist smile.

If you are ready to learn more, just jump into the tutorial below and get started right away.

Ready? Let’s get started!

Step 1. Create a new art board

Create a new art board by using the Artboard tool.

You’ll select your image and then click on the Artboard tool on the left.

From there you’ll choose any of the default artboards for your image, or make a new one.

After selecting a new artboard, click on Add to make sure it opens with your new artboard selected.

After clicking on the Add button, you can resize the window to fit the size of your image.

Next you’ll want to resize the art board to match the size of your image.

So, open the Artboard tool again, and choose the Artboard tool from the left (the one that is always there).

Then click on the Artboard tool, and click on the Resize button at the bottom left.

You’ll then want to resize the artboard until it fits your image, like below. The goal is to make it fit as close to the top and bottom of the image as possible.

Step 2. Put the image on a different layer

The first thing you’ll need to do is put your image on a new layer. This will allow us to edit it to make it look more like the Emoji you’d like to create.

To do so, use the “Layer” tool from the top bar and click on “New Layer.”

Next add your image using the “Image” tool. Select your image and click “Place” on the top right.

After placing your image, you’ll want to put the new image on a new layer by using the “Layer” tool again, and click “Add Layer.”

Step 3. Open the “Edit” tool

Once you’ve done that, you’ll want to use the “Edit” tool to open up some settings for the image.

There are dozens of various filters included, effects, and other “niceties” available in Photoshop. Some of them are mentioned in the respective sections below.

Many of the filters can be applied to multiple layers. This allows you to add an element to one layer and change the color or adjust the settings of another. This can be a great way to achieve more graphic elements.

Viewing and using the Layers and Images dialog box

The Layers and Images dialog box is the easiest and most efficient way to create and manage layers in Photoshop. In the default Window style, the dialog box is one big scroll-up window. You can drag this window to another location, if you want to split it up.

The layers are listed in a bitmap format. To view the layer’s details, click the triangle in the layers’ title bar and choose View All to show the text, like this:

If you notice the layer’s contents display a different type of outline than usual, it means that the layer is being used in a comp or a group. If a layer is part of a group, it typically will have a rounded rectangle outlining the group, like this:

If you click on the group, you’ll see a layer menu and the individual layers that are part of it. As an example, if I were to click on the “Normal” group, I’d see the individual layers that’s part of it displayed.

You can perform most of your edits, such as cropping, resizing, and rotating and flipping layers, by using the dialog box. To crop a layer, for example, click on a portion of the image for the selection. After you click on the Convert to Selection button, the layer is now selected, and you can crop it by clicking the Crop option from the layer’s menu, like this:

Or you can crop the image by going to Image > Crop. The Crop dialog box will be displayed, as shown here:

If you want to resize a layer, first make sure the layer is selected.

Automatically sort a QTableView by clicking a checkbox in the header

I am using a QTableView with a custom data model, and I wish to automatically sort the table by clicking a checkbox in the header.
If I use a normal QTableView the data is automatically sorted when I select the header, but when I use a QTableView with a custom model it doesn’t sort on the selected header.
I have created a new class called “SortableModel” and defined the header as:
qDebug() sortColumns[0]->roleText();

bool TableItem::isHeaderChecked(){
int col = 0;
foreach(QTableWidgetItem *item, columnLabels){
return true;
return false;

int TableItem::getTableColumnIndex(){
int col = 0;
foreach(QTableWidgetItem *item, columnLabels){
return col;
return -1;

The QTableView is displaying correctly, the headers are checkboxes, and the data is correct, but when I click the checkbox to sort it always appears to have no effect.
A quick test of the sorting role indicates it is never called (I have another class called “SortRolesModel” in the same directory that contains a QStandardItemModel that works correctly).
I’m not sure where else to look.

I found a solution.
I was using my own implementation of QTableView, and the sortColumns did not work correctly.
On a fresh install of Qt I used the QSortFilterProxyModel and everything
